The Girls are Being Creative!

The girls had fun today on paddle boards. The staff from the boys camp came and gave us all an introductory lesson. It was so much fun! Also, we filmed the first part of our new music video to the song "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson. The girls also began making their original game boards for the WEHGC Games we are creating.

This is Ruby (and Rae) saying goobye ... for now:)

Blue team brings it home!

Blue Team! Winner of the 2012 session 3 Color War!

The day brought a long and grueling color war. The girls were divided into two even teams and set out to compete in a variety of team building tasks, including a low-ropes element, two water competitions, a relay race, hockey, a silent puzzle challenge and the creation of a skit. The girls did a great job competing to the end and supporting their team mates as well as the other team. By the end of the day, everyone was too tired to get emotional about winning or losing so we all celebrated with a special evening snack in honor of the blue team, wrote letters home, took showers, and went to bed:)

The staff were ready for a Color War show down!

The teams got their colors on ...
and their game faces on!

Let the games begin!

The stars finally came out!

Heading out for the night hike-

Dance party in motion-

Basketball in the new recreation center-
Sunday was dreary and rainy all day. The girls did amazing though; participating in every activity and staying positive. By the end of the day - they even went for a swim in the ran ... and loved it! After an impromptu dance party and early showers, the girls had their second late night program, "Nature at Night". They bravely faced the dark going on a night hike with no flashlights, experimented with color recognition at night, and even made their own light with spearmints. At the end of the night, as the girls were coming in from their adventure, the clouds cleared and we were able to see stars (for the first time in 4 nights!) and even a moon bow! It was a perfect end to a very wet day.

Everybody loves the weekend!

We had a great start to the weekend here at WEHGC. The girls had a busy day, even though everyone got to sleep in. They spent the day sharpening their soccer skills, learning about constellations, reading/working on homework, and playing at the local beach. We finished the night with a movie and some Olympic swimming and went to bed late. Everyone is excited to see what the rest of the weekend brings.

Relaxing on the weekend!

3) In Food for Thought we talked about the good and bad points of "rescuing" an animal from the wild.
4) In Arts & Crafts we made life time-lines and shared them with the group.
5) Milk & Cookies!

To celebrate the olympics we watched opening cerimonies together and had a Polar Bear Swim early this morning!!!! Go teams!

What a Trip Day!!!!

Wow! The girls had an amazing trip day today. First, they were highly attentive and interested in the tour of University of New England. The girls were able to get a little taste of what college is like and even got to visit the sea lions from the marine biology department. We then moved the excitement to Old Orchard Beach where the girls rode rides at the boardwalk carnival and played in the cold ocean water. The girls returned to camp for a campfire cookout with hot dogs and campfire crepes and had to find this missing counselors during the Counselor Hunt. Team Elena earned two extra minutes in the shower for finding both of the missing staff. What a day!

Day 2

Hi there, this is Niare and Esdelyn and we are here to tell you some of the great camp experiences we have had so far this week in camp, like how girls camp is like a second home to us already and the great new memories we are creating and new experiences we are having. This may be the second day of camp but we already have to say it is the best thing that has happened this summer. We have tasted some of the best food like corn and zucchini soup, and chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. We have tasted winter green leaves and went swimming in one of the most beautiful lakes. These different activities and dishes are some of the many new things we were  able to experience. Even though we are away from home camp is already starting to feel like a new home to us. We may not be in the comfort of our homes but we feel really safe and secure being here. It already feels like a big happy family with the all the love and laughter surronding us all the time. We are very excited for the upcoming days!

Mason visitted us for hulla-hoop wars!

Observing olympic swimmers before out swim lesson.

Undoing the human knot.

Third Session Start Off!!!!!

After a long ride saturated with chatter and spontaneous sing-a-longs, the camp was revealed. As was the case last year, no one was disappointed. We first claimed our bunks and were given a tour of the camp. We then had a swim test and Pick & Stay. Tonight's Pick & Stay options were jump-roping, fishing, making pop-up greeting cards, or working on the camp blog. Later, we will have dinner and our first night campfire. Everyone is really excited to be here and having a great time.

The Last of a WEHGC First

The sun has set on WEHGC's first 12 day session! An amazing time was had by all (staff and campers alike). Today was full of fun and simply enjoying the company of one another. Thanks to all of the session 2 girls - you made history!

A full day out of camp!

The girls had an amazing day! They started the day with a college tour of University of New England, then got to ride the rides on the Pier at Old Orchard Beach, spent a few hours playing in the ocean, and came back to camp for a cook-out and counselor hunt. Check out the pics:

Getting to Know the Staff - By: Kalista and Jailyn

Tom is very nice and always gets whatever you need from the kitchen. He always makes sure that everyone is full and fed and happy.

Dona is really interesting, wise, and understanding. You can talk to her about anything and she always has something good to say. She also loves to sing.

Johanna is very good at teaching us how to swim and likes to do arts and crafts with us. She is also a very good singer.

Maddie is the sports and nature person. She always encourages us to try new things and makes sure that we stay safe.

Elena is playful, but knows when to be serious. She is really understanding.

Rae is really funny and goofy and always tries to make you laugh. She takes good care of everyone.

Today has been interesting and relaxing. We worked on our music video in Performing Arts and did bug research posters in Nature. We also did Yoga for sports, had our daily swim lesson, and talked about empowerment in Food for Thought. We are very excited for campfire tonight and our field trip tomorrow.

Blue and White

Congratulations White Team!

White Team

Blue Team
Today was Color War. The blue and white teams had to compete in a variety of tasks including fire building, basketball, relay races, skits, and teamwork. It was an intense competition and the girls fought hard (we had to have a shower break after the basketball game:/). In the end the white team won the session 2, 2012 Color War.

The teams are chosen ...

The competition is on ....

The competition is fierce!
Team skits were a great way to end today's Color War and everyone had a good laugh:)

The girls also had their first swim lessons today, finished their star models, read books, and made birthday pinatas for one of their fellow campers. It was a busy day here at WEHGC and everyone (except for Rae) is sound asleep;)
Working on catching in sports
